As many of you know, we close the fishery for the whole of August every year. It gives the stock a proper rest after the busy summer months, lets water levels and weed growth settle down, and gives us a chance to get maintenance jobs done around the banks and swims that we can’t do while you’re all out fishing.
We’ll be reopening on 1st September, and conditions are usually excellent for autumn stillwater fishing. Cooler water holds more oxygen, the fish feed harder as they build up condition for winter, and the banks are far quieter once the school holidays are over.
What to expect this autumn:
Water temperatures drop through September and October, which tends to bring fish higher in the water column and more willing to take a fly.
Stock levels will be topped up ahead of reopening, so there will be plenty of fresh fish alongside this year’s residents.
Damsel and buzzer patterns worked well through the back end of last season, along with small black lures fished slow on an intermediate line.
Boat fishing tends to come into its own in autumn as the wind picks up and pushes food (and fish) along the margins.
If you’ve got a season ticket, your time simply picks up again from 1st September. Day ticket and tackle hire availability will be as normal.
